Library Resources for Parents and Educators

  • 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten

1,000 Books Before Kindergarten is a great program to get your child interested in reading early. Reading to your little one builds their vocabulary, improves communication skills, emotional/social skills, and creates quality bonding time for you and your child. Speak to our Children’s Librarian if you would like to join our program. Click the link below for resources provided by the 1,000 Books B4-K program.

  • What is my child's reading level?

Children learn to read at different stages and ages. Don’t get discouraged if your child seems to be struggling. If you would like to see what level your child is reading at, click the unaffiliated link below.

  • Book Reviews for Parents

Common Sense Media rates movies, TV shows, podcasts, books, and more so families can feel good about the entertainment choices they make for their kids. For more information about this Non-Profit organization or to read some of the independent reviews, visit their website.

  • Bluebonnet List

The Texas Bluebonnet list is a prestigious list composed of titles from diverse, imaginative and creative authors. The titles on the list offer students in grades 3-6, quality literature that is both fiction and nonfiction to be read for pleasure. Fore more information on how this list is compiled, click here.

  • Homework Help

The TexShare databases contain many tutorials and teaching guides as well as online student practice tests. We suggest starting with the Learning Express Library or the Explora databases. Both of these are divided into age categories and have site-able resources.

Get your child involved!

There are many ways for your child to be involved with the library. They can attend Storytime, participate in the Summer Reading Program, and consider being a Junior Volunteer (see Children’s Librarian for more information).
